At the same time, the bear’s protective nature mirrored how I felt as her caregiver — constantly guarding, advocating, and standing between her and a world that no longer always made sense. Ironically, “Bear” was also a nickname my father lovingly gave me, weaving another layer of family meaning into this piece.
